The human rights situation of Pashtuns in Pakistan constitutes one of the most under-documented and underreported civil society concerns in South Asia. For decades, Pashtuns — particularly those affiliated with the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) and civil society organizations have faced enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, targeted harassment, and the systematic suppression of their right to peaceful assembly, expression, and political participation.

These abuses are not incidental. They reflect a pattern of structural discrimination against Pashtuns in Pakistan's security apparatus and state policies, a pattern documented by human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the Asian Human Rights Commission, as well as by Pakistani civil society organizations operating under extreme risk.

Our Human Rights Program exists to ensure that these violations are not met with silence. Working from Germany, a country with a strong commitment to human rights and international solidarity, we engage in documentation, awareness-raising, policy advocacy, and coalition building to demand accountability for abuses against Pashtuns.

Language is the living memory of a people. For Pashtuns, a community whose identity, history, and oral traditions are inseparably woven into the Pashto language, maintaining linguistic and cultural continuity is not merely a matter of nostalgia. It is an act of resistance against the forces of erasure, and a fundamental human right recognized under international law.

In Pakistan, Pashtuns have faced sustained pressure to abandon their language, downplay their identity, and assimilate into dominant cultural and political frameworks. Cultural expression has been suppressed, Pashto-language media curtailed, and Pashtun poets, artists, and intellectuals targeted for their work. In this context, our cultural program carries a human rights dimension that goes beyond community leisure: it is an assertion of the right to exist as a distinct people with a living culture.

Our Integration Program is grounded in the belief that successful integration is not a process of cultural erasure; it is the creation of a new chapter in one's life story. We support Pashtun individuals and families in building the skills, networks, and confidence they need to participate fully in German society, while honoring who they are and where they come from.

Many of our community members have fled persecution, violence, or discrimination. Their journey to Germany often involved trauma, legal uncertainty, and profound disruption. Our integration support is therefore trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and offered in a spirit of solidarity rather than charity.
